SHAME on the Alafia parents for letting Mrss. Ellia put them over her knee and spank them. They should have responded. They should go again as a group to the next board meeting and give it right back to her.

She will get her promotion and a raise. Anyone want to bet I'm wrong?

WE WON! WE WON! WE WON! Mrs. Elia can spin herself right into the ground trying to make Mrs. Smith out to be a good principal. She can pretend all she wants that this was Mrs. Smith's decision. We know the woman was forced out. Forced out by courageous teachers, forced out by honest media coverage, forced out by two School Board members who listened to our pleas, but most of all forced out by parents who wouldn't give up the fight. Postcards and petitions, blogs and e-mail campaigns, phone calls and letters, fearless speakers and Votes of No Confidence. WE DID IT! And we should all be very proud! Our school can now begin its recovery from the damage done by Mrs. Smith. Hallelujah!

Make no mistake that the Alafia parents were there ready to take another stand. We were set to attack the action plan on every possible front with more speakers than ever before -- fresh new faces to the fight. We were armed with a newly ratified and incredibly forceful PTA "Vote of No Confidence" in the Alafia Administration to be presented by the PTA President. The only strategical error we made was agreeing not to speak if Elia announced the resignation. The catch was in HOW she announced it. Make no mistake, while we sat quietly through Ms. Elia's vindictive little speech, we're not done with her. She has to face us again next week in a parent meeting at our school. The last time she was there, after 180 very frustrated parents finished speaking, she was probably happy she brought both of her of little armed security guards (BTW, does the District pay for them?!). We still have a LOT to say, so she'd better be prepared.

S0, you get to bash her in front of 180 parents who already know the truth, and she gets to make you look like a bunch of out-of-cotrol paremts infront of anybody with cable.

Sounds to me like you lost that battle.

Whatever were you thinking agreeing not to speak? Did you think the district was just going to rollover and play dead? You actually TRUSTED these people? Have you gone mad?

Yes, we'll be the first to agree that that was a blunder on our part. Our speakers were all there prepared to discuss why the action plan is unacceptable and to stress again and again that the only acceptable action is the removal of the principal. Once the principal's departure was known, we were left without a real plan of attack. A dozen speakers demanding something that has already happened would have been ridiciulous. And while we expected Elia to spin her announcement, we were in no way expecting the degree of spin she put on it.

However, the bottom line is that Smith is done -- and a School Board member assured us she will NOT be a principal in this District again. When the dust all settles, what people will remember is that Alafia got rid of a bad principal and it was the parents who made it happen. What WE will remember is that MaryEllen Elia is cut from the same cloth as Ellyn Smith and she must be made responsible for her horrible failings too. Alafia's parents have learned a lot on this journey. For a group of positive, idealistic people, it has been sadly eye-opening. We are, however, wiser and more aware. We will remain diligent and won't hesitate to fight again if we need to.

We may have lost a battle, but we won the war. :-)

It is very sad that this happened, but it is so WONDERFUL that parents and some aware, edified people in our community now know the corruption and mistreatment that the teachers and some wronged parents who were painted as "malcontents" by the district have known for years.

Don't let the torch burn out. THANK YOU to the parents and our bloggers for shining the light on this out of control corruption.

The district did as the district does and railroaded the speakers at the meeting. What they should do is come to the next board meeting to have their voices heard, in a public forum, to express their disgust for Elia. Although I am happy that Smith will be gone, the bigger picture was just as important. Elia is a snake and we need to force the board to get rid of her once her contract is up. SHe really is a vindictive, hateful woman who has no business running our school district.
